Chain Link Fencing and Gates
Chain Link Fencing, also called cyclone fence, consists of a steel woven fabric attached to tubular line posts with specially fitted hardware. It usually includes horizontal tubular top rails and/or bottom rails. For many applications, Chain Link Fencing is the best choice. It has great value considering the long life span, and relatively low cost. It is really maintenance free, and is a popular choice for large spaces, baseball fields, and areas with extra security needs.
Chain link fencing is customizable by height, fabric weight, and post size. The most common heights are 4', 6', and 8', but almost any height can be installed depending on need. The fabric is the woven, open diamond shape that allows visibility through the fence, with the sturdiness designated by the 'weight' or gauge of the fabric. The gauge refers to the thickness of the wire (the lower the number, the thicker the wire). The lighter weight applications usually use an 11 gauge wire, while heavier commercial uses 9 gauge. Vinyl coated wire is also used, with most common colors being black or green.
A large factor in the sturdiness of the fence is the size of the terminal, line and gate posts. The terminal post are used where the line ends, or at corners where the fence turns. It is the primary anchoring point against where the fabric is stretched. Common outside diameter (OD) pipe sizes for corners are 2 3/8" for residential and 2 7/8" for commercial chain link. Line posts are spaced every 10', and will also vary in size, from 1 5/8" to 2 3/8". The top rail is usually 1 3/8" to 1 5/8". All pipes can vary in wall thickness as well. Tension wire along the bottom will keep the fabric snug.
Additional horizontal railing along the bottom and/or middle adds to the strength of the final product
